New Testament apocrypha They are a number of writings of the early Christian church which gives some accounts of the teachings of Jesus, some aspects of the life of Jesus, some accounts of the nature of God, or some of the teachings of his apostles and of their lives. Some of these books are regarded as "canonical". The word "apocrypha" means "hidden writings" and comes from the Greek through Latin.
